Dr. Tawainna Houston is an author, keynote speaker, university lecturer, and licensed naturopathic physician whose work examines how historical, structural, environmental, cultural, and lived conditions shape disease vulnerability, wellness, and human potential within Black communities.

Helping Black communities and serving institutions shift from asking “What's wrong with people?” to asking “What conditions made these outcomes more likely?”
With more than a decade of clinical experience and interdisciplinary training, Dr. Houston integrates medicine, sociology, and spiritual care to contextualize Black health inequities rather than individualizing them.
She challenges narratives that blame Black people for inequitable health outcomes by illuminating how disrupted human conditions shape chronic disease vulnerability, the capacity to thrive, and the expression of human potential.

Her interdisciplinary preparation is what allows her to connect clinical science with the historical, social, and spiritual dimensions of Black health.
A visual framework translating her scholarship into accessible teaching about how chronic disruptions to fundamental needs produce survival adaptations that increase disease vulnerability.
